St. Lawrence Seaway - Flight Locks High Voltage Upgrade

This contract consisted generally of the work associated with the installation of four (4) new 22KV substations and associated systems at each of Locks 4, 5 and 6 of the Welland Canal in Thorold, Ontario.

Our scope of work included the installation of (4) 1000KVA transformers, (4) 22KV load break switches, (4) 600V 1200A distribution switchboards, over 1000 meters of 28KV cable, over 3000 meters of 1KV power cable and over 4000 meters of #4/0 ground cable for a central ground grid.

This project was completed on time and in budget in two non-navigation canal closures (January 1 to March 15) as the canal had to be ready for navigation by March 15.

Systems Completed:

  •  22kV medium voltage distribution, terminations and controls
  •  600V distribution, terminations and controls
  •  Civil work ie: transformer bases, cable duct banks
  •  Fiber and network installation, terminations and commissionings
